Ashley Monroig del Valle
Licensed Mental Health Counselor
Ashley Monroig is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor. Her professional focus lies in working with a wide variety of issues such as trauma, depression, anxiety, self-esteem, life transitions, parenting difficulties, communication difficulties, etc. Ashley is passionate about mental health and individuals getting the care that they need and deserve. She says, "I feel like we don’t put as much emphasis on mental health as we do on physical health, and we don’t realize just how important being well mentally and emotionally is."
Something that makes Ashley unique is her persistence and determination in both her personal and professional life. Ashley states, "I feel like I try my best to connect with everyone that I see and make sure that we have a strong and genuine therapeutic relationship. I truly believe that the therapeutic relationship is one of the most important aspects of therapy. After all, you’re trusting me with your deepest thoughts and feelings!"
Ashley received her Bachelors in Psychology from Dallas Baptist University and her Masters Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Nova Southeastern University. She was born and raised in Puerto Rico, and moved to the States with her family in 2014. So, she is fluent in both English and Spanish. Ashley and her husband are high school sweethearts, and have two girls who "definitely keep us on our toes!"
When asked about her hobbies, Ashley said, "Does driving my kids to their extracurriculars count? All joking aside, I love finding new places to explore especially new restaurants. I also enjoy a good nap!" She also tries to volunteer at her children's school and during their extracurricular activities when she is able to.
Something interesting about Ashley is that her favorite movies are the Lord of the Rings trilogy. Even more interesting is her claims of being able to "kind of" imitate Gollum’s voice. She says, "Emphasis on the kind of, it is not a perfect imitation at all!"
Ashley was drawn to her profession after having gone through certain situations in her life, as well as witnessing her father battle with substance abuse. Unfortunately, he was not able to get the care and help that he needed, so Ashley wanted to contribute in some way to making sure mental health was more accessible for others.
One piece of advice Ashley commonly gives to her clients is, "Emotions are not facts, but it does not mean that they’re not important. We’re all human and we all make mistakes, but I truly believe that what we do and how we handle them makes a huge difference."
